How to Reply on X So People Actually See It

A new X account gets read by replying under people who already have an audience, not by posting into silence. A good reply adds one specific thing to the post above it, arrives within a day of that post, and sounds like a person. I went from 2 to 1,000+ followers this way in about 12 weeks, sending every reply myself. Below is what a good reply is, five before and after examples, and a 10-minute routine.

Why do replies get seen when your posts don't?

Your own posts are shown to your followers first. With 2 followers, that is nobody. A reply is shown under a post that already has readers. If your reply is worth a glance, some of those readers open your profile.

Reach alone won't tell you whether this is working. On my account one day of 33,000 views produced a handful of follows, while a quieter day of about 8,000 produced 66. What counts is whether the people who see your reply think "who is this?" and tap your name. The full numbers are in the 2 to 1,000 breakdown.

What makes a reply worth reading?

Three things, in this order:

  1. It is about the post, not about you. Answer the question, add a missing detail, or disagree politely with a reason.
  2. It is specific. One concrete detail beats three general ones.
  3. It sounds like a person. No tidy slogan at the end. No "Great point!" opener. See nine habits that make posts read as AI.

Five before and afters

Post aboveBefore (weak)After (better)
"What small habit doubled your output?""Great question! Consistency is key.""Deciding the first task the night before. Boring, but I stop wasting the first hour."
"Shipped my first app today.""Congrats! Keep building.""Congrats. What was the part that took longest? For me it was the sign-in screen."
"Cold outreach is dead.""I disagree, it's about the approach.""It's dead when it's a template. Two lines that mention their last post still get answers."
"I hate meetings.""Meetings can be a time sink!""Same. I moved mine to one afternoon a week and my mornings came back."
"Anyone else struggling to get traction?""Hang in there, it gets better!""Yes. What helped me was replying under three bigger accounts a day instead of posting more."

Only write the "after" version if it is true for you. Do not make up the detail.

What is a simple 10-minute daily routine?

  1. Find 10 posts (3 min). People with an audience, posted in the last day. Skip brands and news accounts.
  2. Write or edit 10 replies (5 min). One real thought each.
  3. Send them yourself (2 min). Nothing posted for you.
  4. Next day, answer anyone who replied to you. That second reply is where conversations start.

Humanish does steps 1 and 2 for you: it finds real people worth replying to, drafts a reply in your voice, and throws out drafts that read like AI. You read it, fix a word, and send it yourself. Steps 3 and 4 stay yours, and for step 4 there is a Reply back box where you paste what someone said to you and get a draft in your voice. The whole day, with a posting schedule, is in a 15-minute daily routine.

FAQ

How many replies a day should I post?

Start with 10. Ten you mean beat thirty you don't. On my account, the weeks with the most conversation under my posts were also the weeks with the most new followers, and I never got there by rushing.

Should I reply to big accounts or small ones?

Both. Big accounts give you readers. Mutuals give you conversations. I lean about 80% towards accounts with an audience and 20% towards people who already follow me.

Does replying fast matter?

Yes. A reply under a post that is less than a day old is seen. Under a three-day-old post it mostly isn't.

Will X penalise me for replying a lot?

X dislikes automated replies and spam. Replies you read and send yourself are ordinary replies. Humanish never posts for you.

Is this guaranteed to grow my account?

No. Results depend on your niche, how often you do it and what you say. I can only tell you what happened on mine.
